Welcome to the Centre for Astronomy of Heidelberg University

A groundbreaking study has mapped the full range of turbulent energy across scales in a simulation of the ISM with unprecedented numerical resolution. Ralf Klessen (ZAH/ITA) is one of the main contributors. (2025/05/13)

A new study by the CARMENES project shows that very low-mass stars are likely to host Earth-like planets. On average, there are about two per star. The results have now been published in Astronomy & Astrophysics. (2025/04/28)

Heidelberg researchers have run the largest simulation of the formation and evolution of massive galaxy clusters. Now the simulation data have been published in full, so that others can also use it for their research. (2025/03/05)

Dominika Wylezalek has been appointed as a new Professor at ZAH and Director at ARI, effective March 1, 2025. She will lead the research group “Galaxy Evolution and AGN (GALENA)”. (2025/02/24)

With its sky-scanning phase completed and "retirement” orbit imminent, the ARI team is saddened by the forced break in contact. But there are great data products on the horizon. (2025/01/16)

Prof. Dr. Michela Mapelli (ZAH/ITA) has been appointed to the "Henriette Herz Scouting Program". She now has the opportunity to recommend scientific talents from abroad for a Humboldt Research Fellowship in Heidelberg. (2025/01/08)
