Welcome to the Centre for Astronomy of Heidelberg University

16 researchers from Heidelberg University feature on the list of “Highly Cited Researchers” 2025. Dylan Nelson (ZAH/ITA) is one of the five natural scientists among the Heidelberg researchers and his third HCR nomination. (2025/11/12)

The Ernst Patzer Foundation annually awards prizes for the best peer-reviewed publications by young researchers at MPIA and ZAH. This year, Elisa Schösser (ZAH/ARI) is one of the three prize winners. (2025/10/31)

Dr. Natalia Lahén started her new position as Gliese Fellow 2025 at ARI. Her main research interests focus on hydrodynamical simulations of the formation and evolution of stars and star clusters in a galactic ecosystem. (2025/10/01)

With his new research group, Dr. Ksoll is pursuing the goal of developing evaluation algorithms for the study of star formation on the basis of machine learning. The Carl Zeiss Foundation is funding his project with 1.8 million euros. (2025/09/23)

The Cassegrain U-Band Efficient Spectrograph (CUBES), a future instrument for ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), has successfully passed its final design review. LSW is responsible for the design and development of its optical system. (2025/08/08)

Astronomers created the most detailed colour map of the Sculptor Galaxy - a technical and scientific triumph also featuring Heidelberg expertise. (2025/07/14)
